The Best Answers to ‘Why I Can’t Get Pregnant.’

Imagine yourself this situation. You are in your mid-20’s, having a successful career and a very supportive and loving husband. You are now excited to get pregnant and have the child that you have been eagerly waiting for. A year has passed, two years…and then five years. But alas! You were still not able to conceive a child. Then you ask the big question: why can’t I get pregnant? Is there something wrong with me?

What is the answer? It could be yes, but it could also be no. This question is on the minds of many women who find themselves in a seemingly endless waiting game when all they want is to become pregnant. Society doesn’t help at all, when the expectation is still for women to have children and live the life of a mother. To some extremely conservative people, a woman who cannot have children is seen as not fulfilling her purpose in life. In extreme cases, some women are alienated from their families and communities because of this one simple issue. Different explanations exist for the inability to conceive. A few of these reasons are listed below:

*Smoking and alcohol intake- Several studies have already revealed that people who smoke and drink alcohol have difficulty in getting pregnant. This is because smoking and alcohol intake lowers the estrogen level of women. Effects of the chemicals present in them can reduce the nutrients that a woman should have to get ready for pregnancy. In the same way, if your partner cannot do away with these vices, it can also lower their sperm count necessary for pregnancy to take place.

*Use of contraceptive pill- Many women nowadays are using the most affordable and most accessible method of contraceptive, and these are pills. This is usually taken by women who want to control their number of children. And when the time comes that they are now ready for pregnancy, they encounter difficulties. Why is this so? Pills have effect on one’s system and if you did not take it for a long time, it might be that your body is still undergoing hormonal changes that reacted once you are taking the pills again.

*Stress, stress and stress- Since everything now is going global, people from all walks of life are also keeping at pace with the modern world. In short, everybody is busy working and this can cause stress. In First World countries, stress is the major factor on why people acquire lifestyle diseases. Stress also contributes why women can’t get pregnant. Sometimes couples are just too tired to have sex. And when they do, it didn’t match with the perfect timing in the ovulation cycle. Sex should be done at the peak of the woman’s ovulation cycle.

*Age- As the woman grows older (let’s say 35), the eggs and hormones necessary for fertilization may be lesser. This is also true for men who are in their 40’s, causing male infertility. Remember, a woman’s age will not only affect the frequency of the ovulation but also its quality.

-Medical Problems – Thyroid conditions and undiagnosed diabetes are two fairly common health conditions that can make getting pregnant even more difficult.
