Baby Photography: It’s Not Just For Professionals

January 29th, 2010 Adriana Noton Posted in maternity No Comments »

People use photography as a way to remember all the past events of their life. The change from one grade to the next, graduating from high school or college, marrying that special someone, when you bought your first house, or just as a way to mark the everyday events of life. It doesn’t matter whether the events themselves are important or life changing or not.

Babies are the most popular targets for photos and unfortunately the most difficult to capture on film. You need a lot of skill and patience in order to get a successful baby shot. One thing that you see often in such photos is red eye. Many people think that in order to capture everything well on film that they need to use a flash. This isn’t the case. In terms of babies, natural light is better than bright, glaring, artificial light.

Try to avoid the flash at all costs since it causes red eye. Natural light is best and it’s possible to get it by using what light is available from open windows, or by taking your subject outside. If red eyes can’t be avoided, most cameras have a red eye reduction function on them. If your camera doesn’t have one, or it doesn’t work, there’s software online that you can download for free that provide imaging tools to fix the problem.

The next issue about baby photography I want to address is blurring. Babies are hard to control and irritable when they aren’t being hyper. If they decide that they don’t want their picture taken then they won’t be holding still for it. This is the reason why a high iso speed is so important. Combined with a big aperture you can freeze moments that would have otherwise been blurred beyond recognition.

If your camera doesn’t have one, there is software available that will take care of the problem for you. Another thing to watch out for is blurring. Like I said earlier, most babies don’t like sitting still for pictures and as a result most of them come out looking blurry. Now you can take pictures of your baby acting naturally with the help of a high iso speed camera and big aperture.

The two combined let freeze moments that may not look like much at first, but turn out to be amazing in the split second it took you to snap the picture. Also watch out for your background. Oftentimes people will allow a lot of colors and props around the baby because they think it makes the picture. The truth is that most babies are cute enough that they don’t need so much going on in the photograph, and even if they aren’t the background should still be kept as simple as possible.

Speaking of effects, you can try some very simple things to make the baby picture fascinating and unique. Instead of using the baby as the main focus, you can instead pay more attention to the toys, foods, blankets, and etc that make up the baby’s everyday life.

Another interesting thing hat can be done is taking a photo of the baby while they are doing one of the many strange poses or facial expressions that they are famous for. Or bring in the use of mirrors and blurred backgrounds, both of which work very well in highlighting a baby’s possible worldview.

Maternity Photography And Ideas For Them

January 27th, 2010 Adriana Noton Posted in maternity No Comments »

Whether you are the ones taking them or the ones having them taken, there are some things that one should remember when it comes to maternity photography. You want them to be a reminder of the joy it was though it was not easy to carry that bundle of joy in your womb. The time when that baby was formed and you nurtured it while it was in you is something that created a bond. Here is how to make sure you show how loved your child was when they are older.

To start out with, there are a few places that one should consider having their pictures taken once they choose a maternity photographer. One of those places is outside. Artists depict child birth as a part of nature. When you take your maternity shoot to nature you become one with nature. Now, how cool is that?

The other place that your child will become one with when they are born is the home. This is your natural surrounding and there is not anything that says I cannot wait until you are here than having your photos taken at home. These after all will be their first pictures.

When you take this picture or have it taken, dress up lady. You deserve to look great and childbirth adds to it. Be proud of who you are and what you look like. Flaunt it for the camera. This is your shoot to show that baby when he or she is born that you are darn proud to be the mom. You are doing the hard work after all.

You cannot forget to show dad in these. The greatest pictures are connecting the tummy as it is protruding in the center focal point while the couple is romantically intertwined. It says you were not a mistake, we love you each other just as much as we love you. It is love in all its beauty.

This might not be your first one. It could be your second or third one. So include the family. Sometimes it is even cute to include the animals as well. They should be a part of this joyous occasion too. This is just one other idea that is somewhat new actually.

Show different angles. Now, ladies I know you are saying that is torture. You think you are big. You think you are ugly and you wonder why anyone would want to see that. You got curves for a reason. You did not overeat. You did not just poof and gain weight. You are carrying a lovely bundle of joy and show the curves and the poundage off.

When these are being taken it should be simple. It should focus on the not yet born child and the love that surrounds it. Therefore you do not want too much scenery to show. It should be right there and in the center of it all.

These photos will be treasured as your child gets older. You do not want to forget them days. They pass by so quickly and before you know it they are on their own. Get something that can help you to remember that great feeling you had as you carried them into this world. The news is so great to hear. Now, share it with others as you allow them to see the great feelings you have as you prepare for your child.

How To Find Plus Size Maternity Clothes

December 19th, 2009 Robyn Rae Posted in maternity No Comments »

When I started shopping for Plus Size Maternity Clothes it quickly became apparent that I was about to become a celebrity. I was about to become famous. My face would be on the cover of fashion magazines and my name would be plastered in headlines around the world. People would come from near and far to stand in line for days on end just to get one look at me. Why, they might even give me some kind of title or even a crown. I’d be treated like royalty. Because apparently, by the looks of the maternity clothes I was finding in the shops, only women who are size 14 or smaller get pregnant!

When I found out I was pregnant, I didn’t expect, at size 20, to be able to just walk into any store and find an enormous selection of plus size maternity clothes. I mean, it’s hard enough finding decent plus size clothes when you’re not pregnant. Manufacturers are only just beginning to realize that there are a lot of us plus size women out here and we’d like to look fashionably in something other than a tent or a caftan. But when I started looking for plus size maternity clothes I didn’t expect to find nothing at all. I mean, what do these people think? Do they think that nobody gets pregnant if they wear a size larger than 14?

The good news is that, while plus size maternity clothes may still be difficult to find at the mall or your neighborhood department store, there are more and more resources available online. Shops like 2Chix.com, Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug, Motherhood.com, and even Old Navy are increasing the styles they offer to plus size pregnant women. These online retailers realize that life doesn’t stop if you’re not a size 12.

When shopping on line for plus size maternity clothes, make sure to keep your measurements in mind and allow plenty of room for growth. You may be a size 18 at the beginning of your pregnancy, but chances are, as your pregnancy progresses, you may gain another size. Most maternity clothes are made to allow for this increase, but, as we plus size women know, in our sizes the manufacturers don’t always follow all the norms.

Fortunately for pregnant women, no matter what the size, clothing with an empire waist has come back in style. I used to hate these baby doll dresses and shirts because I thought they made me look pregnant, but they’re a staple in my closet now. With some of the baby doll shirts I have, I like to tie a ribbon or sash just under the bust line to highlight my baby bump but usually they work as a fashionable statement all by themselves. And I found a beautiful black dress with an empire waist for the holidays. I sewed a bright red ribbon along the empire seam line that drew lots of attention to my belly and you wouldn’t believe the number of compliments I received on that dress. My pregnant friends are always asking to borrow it.

When shopping for plus size maternity clothes, just like any other time in your life, shop wisely and get yourself a couple of really nice pieces that you can mix and match with other items in your wardrobe. Even us plus size girls need a closet full of maternity clothes!

What to Look for in Maternity Clothes

December 16th, 2009 admin Posted in maternity No Comments »

maternity
Maternity clothes are an important part of your pregnancy considering that you will need them for about six to seven months. You will also see that maternity clothes are not just what you wear but will also assist in how you feel. So you want to be assured that they are stylish and comfortable.

The Bra. One of the most important pieces of maternity clothing you will purchase will be your maternity bra. Don’t be hesitant to invest in a good bra. Your breasts will swell during pregnancy in preparation for breast-feeding, some women go up as much as three cup sizes. Even if you are not choosing to breast feed, your breasts will not know that until your doctor gives you the pill after your baby’s birth to stop milk production. Your main focus on the bra should be that it fits comfortably and gives your breasts support. Proper support for your breasts is imperative during this time or they will hurt and could even cause you to have back pain. It would be helpful to have someone qualified from any lingerie department to assist you in finding the correct bra size for maximum support.

Mix and Match. The good news is you are no longer restricted to overalls and large collared shirts. The bad news is maternity clothes do tend to be expensive. However, choose the right picks and it will be well worth your pennies. Being able to choose from maternity clothing that is stretchable but has style is always nice. Although, not everyone can go out and buy a whole new wardrobe, consider solid colors and buying new items that match what you wear normally. You’ll be able to wear some of your pre pregnancy clothes as well as shoes and accessories. Accessories can help you get the most variety out of your wardrobe as well. Try scarf’s, jewelry, handbags and shoes. This gives you the ability to mix and match, creating more outfits. Also, don’t forget to throw in those jeans. You may find the ones you like to be a bit pricey, but the better they fit the more you’ll wear them.

Reveal It. You may notice that many maternity clothing companies are showing maternity clothes that enhance being pregnant instead of hiding it. Just because you’re carrying doesn’t mean that you can’t be sexy. So accentuate your new curves. It can be anything from a sleeveless shirt to a short dress or a low-cut top. This will also help with your self-esteem, looking good means feeling good. If your budget doesn’t allow for the clothes that catch your eye, invest in one outfit that makes you feel special. Even if it’s a little summer dress it can make you look and feel like a million dollars. Don’t forget to wear it as much as possible, celebrate while you can.

Do’s and Don’ts. Don’t wear restrictive clothing such as tight belts or stockings with elastic bands. Do wear maternity support pantyhose or stockings. You don’t want anything restrictive around your midsection, you do want to keep the blood flowing, which is the reason for support stockings. Pull them on before getting out of bed in the morning and before blood has a chance to pool in your legs to help minimize the risk of varicose veins. Don’t strut around in stilettos it’s just not the right timing plus that wouldn’t be a pretty fall. Do wear flats or shoes with wide chunky heels instead. Slip-on’s will also be a very helpful as you will see. Don’t wear a long sleeve sweater with nothing underneath during cold weather. Do layer your clothing.Your metabolic rate increases by about 20 percent when you’re pregnant, which means that if everyone else is shivering, you will be complaining about the heat. With a layered look, you can peel clothes off as needed.

Shopping for maternity clothes shouldn’t be something you’re avoiding. Before you know it you will be showing with nothing to wear. Instead, have fun with it. This is your remedy for feeling sexy.

Maternity Swimwear For Your Pregnancy

December 7th, 2009 admin Posted in maternity No Comments »

maternity
The approach to finding the perfect maternity swimwear for your ever changing pregnant shape is a whole different game than shopping for a pre-pregnancy swimsuit. First, the objectives are completely changed: instead of flattening out the belly and minimizing the waist, you are looking for comfort and stretch. Lots of stretch! However, one goal remains unchanged: you want to look your best and you want your suit to flatter your shape!

To best show off your changing shape and accent all the positive – your enhanced bust line and curvier curves, shop for a maternity swimsuit that can comfortably be worn from your 1st trimester through your 3rd trimester. Comfort, ease of fit and bust support are very important factors in choosing your suit. The last thing any expectant mother wants to feel is constricted by her clothes! Trying to fit into your former life pre-pregnancy suits is not only unflattering but may make it hard to breathe.

Prego Maternity is a specialty maternity swimsuit line with a wide variety suits from halter babydolls, tankinis, halterkinis, ring-kinis, one piece performance suits and even maternity bikinis. Prego’s swimsuits are made with 80% Nylon and 20% Lycra which allow a lot of stretch to fit women through all trimesters of their pregnancy.

Increasingly, many of the top maternity designers are finding their way into fashionable maternity swimwear such as Maternal America, Olian Maternity and Ripe Maternity. If you are shopping online for a maternity swimsuit, it is important that you find out if the suits contain about 20% Lycra to allow enough stretch. Also, review the store’s return policy on swimsuits as you cannot be sure until you try it on if it really fits.

A few tips in choosing your Maternity Swimsuit:

If you are a serious lap swimmer and are looking for a good performance maternity swimsuit, there is no substitute for your basic one piece suit. Prego Maternity’s Empire Tank is a good choice and also provides a good amount of bust support.

If you are looking to camouflage the hip and bottom area, go for a skirted style such as the Babydoll. Prego Maternity has a variety of solids and print patterns in the Halter Babydoll and the Babydoll Plus which is a tank style babydoll.

If you want to show a little belly but not bear all in a bikini, the tankini and halterkinis are a fun flirty style. Prego Maternity, Maternal America, Ripe and BellaBumBum make this style is wide variety of prints and solids. Hint: The larger prints are more flattering for bigger bellies!

If you want a little more room in the hip area, go for the side tie bottom 2 piece styles that can be adjusted as your shape changes. You can find these in the Tankini, Hipkini and Halterkini varieties. For bigger bust or more bust support, look for tank style tops with wide adjustable straps. Styles that fit higher on the back usually offer better support. The halter style is typically better for smaller to medium size bust with the exception of the Prego Halter Babydoll that does provide a good amount of support and has a larger cup size. Also, make sure that the suit you choose has ample room and stretch in the bust if you have another trimester or two to go!

Finally if you are one the brave beautiful bellied women who want to flaunt it all at the pool or beach, there’s the perfect maternity bikini for you! The advantage of the maternity bikini verses a regular bikini is that it is made with a lot more stretch and more room in the bust. The side tie styles also allow for more room in the hip area.

A maternity swimsuit is one item that every woman should have in their maternity wardrobe.
